"The White Cells" is our entry for the Global GameJam 2013, this time focussing on the theme heartbeat.
After an hour of discussing and brainstorming, we came up with a tower defense game where players had to defend the heart as white blood cells. Thanks to supervisor Chris McEntee, this later got changed to defending the oxygen stream that flows into the heart. This made for a fun gameplay element, as oxygen serves as a resource, as well as Dynamic Difficulty Adjustment: oxygen sped up the heart, which would speed up everything else. Unfortunately the concept didn't work out due to its large scope, and nobody was satisfied with the result. But we were proud of our concept, learned a lot and hope to rework it sometime.
My role in the project was creating art, as well as some creative directing. I also created most of the level and feature design, although most of it didn't end up in the game. If you want to play the game yourself, you can visit the project page here and download it. It does require at least 2 xbox 360 controllers to play, though.
