Escape to the Forest is a project I created at school in the Unreal Development Kit. It started out as a 2-person project, but due to creative differences I redid the project alone.
The level, which is more of an interactive experience than a game, puts the focus on narrative storytelling. It puts the player in a 19th Century London, with Jack the Ripper on the loose. The player has to navigate the dark alleyways through an unnatural mist, while the shadowy figure of Jack keeps popping up left and right. Multiple triggers will set off events in Kismet, either adding to the atmosphere or adding a small and simple game element. All models and textures are downloaded from TurboSquid or are from the standard UDK assets. Some edits were made. |

Why UDK?I created this level using UDK, allowing me to create simple, interactive elements through Kismet. It also allowed me to use the art assets that come with the program.
I tried to keep the Kismet Sequences as organized as possible, and managed to do that to a great extent, but it still looked somewhat overwhelming at times. In the end I managed to do a lot with the engine, and used the knowledge I had in creative ways to fill the gaps. You can see a quick walk-through on the left here, or you can download it here, but be sure to read the README file first. |
